‘Fierce Fighting’: Militants Clashing in Aleppo’s Sheikh Maqsood District

Over 2,000 militants from Syrian terror groups, “moderate rebels” forces gathered in Aleppo’s Sheikh Maqsood neighborhood, as al-Nusra Front militants kept shelling the district overnight, the Russian military said.

Al-Nusra Front militants continued overnight to shell the Sheikh Maqsood neighborhood in northern Aleppo, Russia’s Syrian reconciliation center said Monday. “As darkness fell, terrorist groups opened heavy fire from a window of the Castello trade center, which was formerly held by ‘moderate opposition’ forces,” a member of the Russian Defense Ministry’s center based in Hmeymin said.

“Fierce fighting is underway on the outskirts of the Sheikh Maqsood district. Militants continue pulling armed vehicles and cars with mounted large-caliber machine guns to the area,” the Russian military official added.

He said more than 2,000 militants from both terror groups and “moderate opposition” forces had gathered near Sheikh Maqsood, which has been greatly damaged by artillery fire. Dozens of civilians have been killed or injured.
