CIA ‘Woke’ Recruitment Ad Invites Ridicule, but Are Audiences Missing the Bigger Picture?

At first glance, it appears that the U.S. foreign spy agency, much like a number of overzealous corporations, overshot the mark in their latest promotional ad, where nearly every liberal identity is compulsively ticked in an apparent effort to ingratiate itself with the woke crowd. Or, on the other hand, did the clandestine organization reveal its global agenda moving forward?

It’s one thing when a major corporation, like Coca-Cola (transgender), Gillette (toxic masculinity) and United Airlines (critical race theory) panders to the political left with commercials promoting any number of bizarre causes, for here the motivation can be chalked up to the almighty bottom line – and despite the fact that those ads have a strong tendency for alienating their consumer base. But when one of the most powerful intelligence agencies on the planet starts virtue signaling then it’s safe to say something else besides mere profit is at work.

First, for those who didn’t see the ad, it was memorable for all the wrong reasons – self-indulgent, preachy, patronizing and so dripping in wokeness it could have been an acceptance speech at the Grammy Awards.

“I am perfectly made,” declares the unidentified Latino female. “I am a woman of color; I am a mom; I am a cisgender millennial who has been diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder. I am intersectional but my existence is not a box-checking exercise.”

Don’t turn off your Google search function just yet, dear reader, because the name-dropping of woke identities doesn’t end there.

“I used to struggle with imposter syndrome, but at 36 I refuse to internalize misguided patriarchal ideas of what a woman can or should be.”

You mean like the Director of the CIA, for example? After all, despite all this talk about a creepy patriarchy preventing women from advancing in their careers, the last head of the spy agency was Gina Haspel, appointed by none other than the purported misogynist Donald J. Trump. But I digress.

Careful to point out that her existence was not “a box-checking exercise,” the officer in the recruitment ad nevertheless went to extreme lengths to emphasize, once again, that she is a female, minority, cisgender, millennial, intersectional, who has been diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder and impostor syndrome, while resistant to patriarchal ideas. So what’s going on here? Is this an example of yet another organization bowing to the social justice warriors, infinitely empowered now that bumbling Biden is in charge? Personally, I think it goes deeper than that. Call me paranoid, but it’s difficult to understand why the CIA would ‘go woke’ unless there was some sort of ulterior motive behind it.

First, not once during this entire woke sermon was the term ‘American’ uttered. That may or may not be significant, but it does seem telling. Amid persistent rumors that the Western elite are hell-bent on laying the groundwork for their ‘New World Order,’ the first step to fulfilling that deranged dream – mentioned in a State of the Union Address by former CIA chief turned U.S. President, George W. Bush on Sept. 11, 1991 – would be to obliterate any notion of nationhood once and for all. And as so eloquently articulated by the woman in the recruitment ad, personal issues pertaining to sex, race and gender, currently all the rage in academia and critical [fill in the blank] theory, now take precedence over any discussions pertaining to patriotism. In fact, in these post-Trump days, ‘love of country’ has practically become synonymous with white supremacist ideology. Displays of patriotism that were once visible on every bumper sticker across the country have been replaced with the tearing down of historic monuments to the nation’s founders, and ‘taking a knee’ while the national anthem is being played.

This demonstrates the inherent danger of the woke movement in that it severely atomizes human beings to the point where they become strangers even to themselves. In fact, it takes the whole concept of ‘divide and conquer’ to an entirely new plane. Not so long ago, a person could have simply defined themself as a ‘feminist,’ for example, or an ‘environmentalist’ and those descriptions would have nicely sufficed. Today, the radical progressives, pledging allegiance to the meaningless motto proclaiming “Diversity, Inclusion and Equity” – a weak substitute for the battle cry of the French Revolution that demanded “Liberty, Equality and Fraternity” – have whittled away individuals to such a degree that actual debates are raging over the biological sex of newborns, proper pronoun usage and whether born males should compete against females in sport. Such absolute insanity exhausts much of the energy from the body politic, exactly as it was designed to do.

By now it may be more obvious why the U.S. intelligence agency might be courting members of the woke movement, that is, assuming they were not the creators of it to begin with. Far from ‘bowing’ to its demands, the agency may see an opportunity for breaking down the bonds that unite a people – a foreign people, to be more precise. And how better to do that than to break down the bonds that hold together each individual person?

When individuals are consumed with questions regarding their ‘true’ sexuality, their oppressed heritage and race or some shadowy patriarchy supposedly holding them down, collecting these scattered passions like so many dry leaves and setting them alight is mere child’s play. The United States recently witnessed such a phenomenon first hand as social justice organizations, like Black Lives Matter, used the invisible bogeymen of ‘systemic racism’ and ‘white supremacy’ to begin a cross-country looting and torching campaign that continues to this day. The artificially induced racial tensions that have gripped America overnight may be used not for regime change, but for distracting attention away from the nation’s growing problem with economic inequality, aggravated during the pandemic. But that’s another story.

Today, the geopolitical playing field is no longer limited to various pivotal landmasses described by the political scientist Zbigniew Brzezinski in his seminal work, The Grand Chessboard. The new geopolitical battleground is that space between the ears known as the human mind, which the powers-that-be, armed with all of the subtle technologies at their disposal, are currently manipulating with tremendous effect.

The colorful parade of endless ‘identities,’ promoted non-stop by academia, legacy media and social media, poses a direct threat to the safety and sanctity of the nation state. And with military arsenals having evolved to the point where war has become largely impossible, lest we desire the extinction of the planet, the second most effective way to defeat an enemy, aside from economic sanctions, is through psychological warfare. The weaponization of divisive woke ideology against the people of the planet seems to be a foregone conclusion, and sovereign states had better wake to its reality.
