Former Polish PM Tusk Ridiculously Alleged a Kaczynski-Putin Conspiracy
Former Polish Prime Minister as well as former European Council President Donald Tusk recently re-entered his country’s domestic political arena after being appointed head of its Civic Platform (PO) opposition party and subsequently decided to announce his return in the most dramatic way possible by ridiculously implying that grey cardinal Jaroslaw Kaczynski is conspiring with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The practically pathological nature of the Polish elite’s “negative nationalism” vis-a-vis Russia is such that the country’s main political forces always rely on Russophobia for votes despite it being unclear whether the average Pole still shares this hatred towards their historical neighbor. Nowhere is this more perfectly embodied than by former Polish Prime Minister as well as former European Council President Donald Tusk ridiculously implying that grey cardinal Jaroslaw Kaczynski is conspiring with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Tusk recently re-entered his country’s domestic political arena after being appointed head of its Civic Platform (PO) opposition party and subsequently decided to announce his return in the most dramatic way possible.
According to him, “For some unknown reason, Kaczyński and PiS have insisted on implementing Putin’s political and international agenda in Poland and in Europe point by point, both when it comes to domestic and foreign policy.” Tusk believes that this is leading to Poland’s “complete isolation” from Europe, and that “Really the only person who, after something like this, opens another champagne after PiS’s decisions is Putin in the Kremlin.” Moreover, he claimed that “there are also forces that destroy the church from the outside [and] PiS and Kaczyński are the best examples of this…Today, evil rules in Poland, and we are going out onto the field to fight this evil.” In other words, Tusk is trying to convince his compatriots that Kaczynski is Putin’s puppet and that the Russian leader has basically installed an “evil” force to rule Poland by proxy and destroy the Catholic Church.
Anyone with even a passing awareness of Russian-Polish relations since Ukraine’s Western-backed Euromaidan Hybrid War of Terror knows that Kaczynski is perhaps Poland’s most politically Russophobic de facto leader in generations. The grey cardinal’s grand strategic vision seems to be such that he’s almost obsessed with burning all possible bridges with Russia in order to present Poland as the US and NATO’s vanguard state for containing the Eurasian Great Power, which he seeks to do through the “Three Seas Initiative” for restoring his country’s historical “sphere of influence” in Eastern Europe and even expanding it throughout Central Europe as well. Kaczynski isn’t totally oblivious to the ongoing US-backed German Hybrid War on Poland since he’s previously accused Tusk and the former Prime Minister’s PO of being German proxies, but his focus is mostly on Russia.
In hindsight, that was a major miscalculation since he naively thought that it would safeguard Poland from such regime change threats by its so-called “allies”. Moreover, Kaczynski never could have thought that US President Joe Biden would attempt to enter into an incipient rapprochement with Russia that his government regards as being at Poland’s strategic expense. As I wrote concluded last month, “Poland’s Counterproductive Foreign Policy Is Responsible For Its Present Predicament” and even “Polish-US Missile Defense Co-Op Is A Strategic Smokescreen” to distract from this “politically inconvenient” fact. Whatever one’s criticisms may be about the ruling Law & Justice (PiS) party, including its conservative-nationalist domestic vision that aligns with the increasingly global trend of pro-sovereignty policies, there’s no denying that Kaczynski is fiercely anti-Russian.
For Tusk to claim otherwise and even go as far as implying a conspiracy between that grey cardinal and President Putin is completely dishonest. It won’t convince anyone to reconsider their views about Poland’s incumbent government since there’s no factual basis to what he said. That being the case, one must naturally wonder why he said it and went as far in detail as he did. It can only be speculated, but this might have served the purpose of Tusk signaling to the anti-Russian faction of the US’ permanent military, intelligence, and diplomatic bureaucracies (“deep state”) that he’ll keep Kaczynski’s anti-Russian policies in force if his party’s ongoing German-backed Color Revolution succeeds in “democratically” toppling the grey cardinal. It could also have been a preemptive infowar attack to counteract PiS’ possible claims that PO might be a Russian proxy.
Tusk therefore killed two birds with one stone though at the expense of his domestic credibility, which already wasn’t all that good to begin with since leaving office since it was he who presided over Poland prior to PiS rise and was therefore largely responsible for it. The former Prime Minister reassured the US’ “deep state” of his anti-Russian intentions while also deflecting any forthcoming allegations from Kaczynski or his party that PO is a Russian proxy alongside being a German one (the latter of which it arguably is though). The ruling party might have thought it “politically convenient” to make such an allegation in order to kill two birds with one stone as well by capitalizing on recently revived negative social sentiments towards Germany as well as the state-backed anti-Russian ones that PiS has been carefully cultivating since coming to power.
In any case, those “moderate” supporters of the Polish opposition might now question Tusk’s sincerity as well as his intentions after he ridiculously claimed that Kaczynski of all people might secretly be President Putin’s puppet. Nobody in Poland could ever seriously believe such a thing for the earlier mentioned reasons. It’s a flat-out lie and counterfactual to the core. It might not be enough to get those “moderate” supporters to sit out the next elections, but they might at the very least begin to lose what might have been their prior near-total faith in the opposition. A lie is still a lie no matter the reason why it’s made, and Tusk just spewed a bald-faced one that’s totally unbelievable. He did so to advance his personal “deep state” agenda as well as preemptively thwart any of PiS’ infowar allegations against him and PO, which revealed the selfish motives for his lies.
