ChatGPT Proposed an Almost Perfect Solution to the Ukrainian Conflict

ChatGPT deserves praise for the spirit of its peace proposal, which not only rightly implies that Kiev is to blame for the conflict, but also includes some pragmatic suggestions that this fascist regime would do well to seriously consider.

The popular artificial intelligence chatbot known as ChatGPT proposed an almost perfect solution to the Ukrainian Conflict upon being asked to do so by former Indian diplomat Vikas Swarup, who shared its response on Twitter here. For the reader’s convenience, its proposal will be shared in full below:

“The conflict between Russia and Ukraine is a complex and long-standing issue, and finding a solution that is acceptable to both parties is a challenging task. However, as an AI language model, I can suggest a possible mediation solution:

1. Negotiations: The first step towards resolving the conflict is through negotiations between the leaders of both countries. The negotiations should aim to find a common ground and establish a framework for future cooperation.

2. Ceasefire: Both parties must agree to an immediate ceasefire to allow for negotiations to take place. This is important to prevent further loss of lives and destruction of property.

3. Decentralization: Ukraine should agree to decentralize power to the regions where Russian-speaking populations live. This would give the regions more autonomy, including control over their own economic development, language, and cultural policies.

4. International monitoring: International monitoring of the situation should be established to ensure that both parties are adhering to the agreements reached during negotiations.

5. Economic assistance: International organizations such as the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank should provide assistance to Ukraine to help stabilize its economy.

6. Recognition of the sovereignty of Ukraine: Russia should recognize the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.

7. Cultural protection: Russia should work with Ukraine to protect the cultural rights of Russian speakers in Ukraine, such as allowing the use of the Russian language in education and public life.

8. Military withdrawal: Both parties should agree to withdraw their military forces from the conflict zone and establish a demilitarized zone along the border.”

Everything that this AI suggested is sensible, and a reading between the lines reveals that it believes Kiev is to blame for the Ukrainian Conflict due to its refusal to respect the UN-enshrined human rights of its Russian-speaking population, ergo the proposals for decentralization and cultural protection.

That said, ChatGPT’s peace proposal also has five serious shortcomings. First, it completely ignores that NATO clandestinely crossed Russia’s national security red lines in Ukraine and refused to resolve the resultant security dilemma through diplomatic means, thus prompting the special operation. Second, it also makes no mention of the fact that its suggestions are largely a remix of the Minsk Accords, which former German Chancellor Merkel admitted last year were never intended to be implemented by Kiev.

Third, no peace proposal stands any realistic chance of success without addressing NATO’s continued expansion into Ukraine over the past year either, which contributed to further eroding Russia’s legitimate national security interests. Fourth, this chatbot is also obviously oblivious to last September’s referenda that led to four former Ukrainian regions reuniting with their historic Russian homeland, which was driven by the population’s desire to have it protect their human rights that Kiev violated.

And fifth, it’s extremely unlikely that Russia will ever withdraw its military forces from the entirety of its frontier seeing as how their presence there guarantees the locals’ security, though there’s a chance that it might do so around the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) as a result of ongoing negotiations. In sum, ChatGPT’s peace proposal focuses on the direct bilateral causes of the conflict but overlooks the new ground realities as well as the larger causes of what’s indisputably now a NATO-Russian proxy war.

Having clarified that, this chatbot deserves praise for the spirit of its peace proposal, which not only rightly implies that Kiev is to blame for the conflict, but also includes some pragmatic suggestions that this fascist regime would do well to seriously consider. For instance, Zelensky should eschew the ridiculous legal restriction that he himself supported relating to the impossibility of peace talks with President Putin in order to begin negotiations on a ceasefire as soon as possible.

This could include a demilitarized zone around the ZNPP and the deployment of a UNSC-authorized peacekeeping force along the Line of Control (LOC). The second-mentioned aspect of this potential outcome would imply Kiev recognizing the new ground realities related to its former regions’ reunification with Russia, which would be pragmatic seeing as how it’s extremely unlikely that it’ll ever reconquer those territories in full.

That fascist regime’s Western patrons should ideally encourage Ukraine to then grant autonomy to its remaining Russian-populated regions in the East and South if they truly want to ensure a lasting peace, though those intentions are of course questionable considering the US’ divide-and-rule track record. Nevertheless, even absent the bestowing of autonomy to those territories, the Golden Billion will likely pour enormous sums of money into rebuilding all parts of this former Soviet Republic.

Even though they’d predictably exploit that crumbling country to the max in order to squeeze as much profit out of it as possible, it’s still better for them to invest in Ukraine than to ignore it completely like they did Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, and Syria after destroying those states since the start of this century. All told, despite the five shortcomings inherent in ChatGPT’s peace proposal, it’s impressively pragmatic and should hopefully inspire a wider discussion about its eight-step plan for ending this proxy war.
