China Displays Advanced Weapons at Massive Military Parade
China demonstrated its most advanced military hardware, a stunning display of martial pride dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Liberation Army.
On July 30 China held a massive military parade at the Zhurihe military base in Inner Mongolia dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the PLA’s founding, with some 12,000 servicemen, 129 aircraft and 571 military vehicles taking part in the event.
During the parade the Chinese leadership displayed the most advanced military hardware at its disposal, including Type 99A main battle tanks, HJ-10 anti-tank missile systems, Shenyang J-16 strike fighters and Chengdu J-20 fifth-generation stealth fighter aircraft.
Beijing also presented its “carrier killer” – the DF-21D anti-ship medium range ballistic missile – and unveiled the new DF-31AG intercontinental ballistic missile that has a maximum range of over 10,000 kilometers.
The Chinese People’s Liberation Army was founded on August 1, 1927. And despite the fact that Chinese President Xi Jinping earlier announced his intention to reduce the number of his country’s military personnel by 300,000, the over 2-million-strong PLA still remains the world’s largest military force.
It was a really good bet in the 1980s and a pretty good bet in the 1990s, but is stealth the way to go in the 2020s? After all, it has been around for some 40 years and – so far, at least – hasn’t made much of a dent in the world’s fleet of…
The world’s mightiest navy is at risk of being sunk — not by a superior enemy, but by its own inability to acquire ships that work at a price that even the richest military on the planet can afford. The U.S. Navy today has only 272 deployable warships — a decline of more than 50 percent in just the…
It is a scandal in contemporary international law, don’t forget, that while “wanton destruction of towns, cities and villages” is a war crime of long standing, the bombing of cities from airplanes goes not only unpunished but virtually unaccused. Air bombardment is state terrorism, the terrorism of the rich. It has burned up and blasted…
China is about to accomplish a historic act in Colombia. In 1942, when Bogotá had 380,000 inhabitants, a project was launched to build the urban metro. After more than 75 years and with 8 million people, the work finally seems real, thanks to Chinese efforts, already valued at more than 3.5 billion dollars. The Bogota…
I will now explain war, or some of it. If you wonder how some mutt in Mexico with a computer thinks he knows about strategy, well, look at what we have in Washington. How could I be worse? In geopolitical circles, blather swirls over whether the United States can defend Taiwan against a Chinese invasion…
How the U.S. plans to defend its “unsinkable aircraft carrier” Relations between the U.S. and China have recently deteriorated significantly. Diplomatic rhetoric has escalated. Politicians in Washington are calling for tough measures. Military analysts and experts predict various conflict scenarios. Most of them will allegedly occur because of China’s decision to incorporate Taiwan by force…
