Despite Many in Alt-Media Wishing It Was True, Iran Isn’t Selling Drones to Russia

They wanted so badly to believe that Iran is Russia’s military ally and thus sending it hundreds of drones for use in that conflict that they inadvertently fell for all the infowar objectives that Sullivan was pushing with his latest fake news provocation. Had they applied President Putin’s advice against wishful thinking, none of this would have happened, but they arrogantly believe that they “know better” than he does.

The Alt-Media Community’s (AMC) wishful thinking fantasy about Iran selling Russia drones was just dashed by none other than the Islamic Republic’s own diplomats, who denied US National Security Advisor (NSA) Jake Sullivan’s recent claim about this allegedly planned transaction. The American official raised eyebrows on Monday when he said that the Islamic Republic would expedite the sale of up to several hundred drones to that Eurasian Great Power after the second-mentioned supposedly lost most of its own throughout the course of the ongoing special military operation in Ukraine. Sullivan also threw shade at Iran by adding that its drones have wreaked havoc during the Yemeni War.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani swiftly denied this alleged deal the day after, which was followed by Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian on Wednesday in an interview with an Italian newspaper. Iran’s top diplomat reminded everyone that “We are trying to avoid any actions that may lead to an escalation. We are working on stopping this war”, which Russian Ambassador to Iran Levan Dzhagaryan seconded on the same day by reaffirming that country’s balanced position towards the Ukrainian Conflict. In his words, “It is clear that Iran is opposed to the war, which causes many miseries for the civilian population”, though he also said that it understands Russia’s goals.

With these official statements in mind, and remembering that Iran only abstained from the UNGA vote condemning Russia’s special operation in Ukraine instead of voting against it like their shared Syrian ally did (which proved Tehran’s principled neutrality towards the conflict), there’s no doubt that Sullivan’s accusation was nothing but fake news. The intent appears to have been to achieve several interconnected information warfare objectives. First, it importantly precedes Biden’s trip to Iran’s Israeli and Saudi rivals, both of whom also defied US pressure to sanction Moscow. This suggests that his false claims are meant to encourage them to break from Russia, though that’s unlikely to happen.

Second, the American NSA wants the world to believe that Russia has truly lost a bunch of its military equipment during the special operation exactly as US-led Western Mainstream Media (MSM) have falsely claimed for months already, including the infamously wrong prediction by former US Commander in Europe Ben Hodges in mid-March that Russia was supposedly just ten days away from depleting all of its ammo and manpower. Relatedly, the third infowar objective is to misportray Russia as so weak that it has to rely on a so-called “rogue state” like Iran to replenish its military reserves, which leads to the fourth goal of reinforcing the false perception that the Islamic Republic is a so-called “threat” to Europe.

The fifth and final objective is to create the artificially manufactured narrative basis for putting more pressure on Iran during the talks over renegotiating the nuclear deal by claiming that this is required in order to convince Tehran not to sell drones to Russia that it never intended to do anyhow. This sequence of infowar objectives is meant to culminate in the false conclusion that the US successfully averted this supposedly “game-changing” deal that in reality wasn’t ever even in the cards. The end result is that Russia and Iran are misportrayed as weak while the US is wrongly seen as strong among those who fell for this fake news.

The problem, however, is that many in the AMC sincerely wanted Sullivan’s claims to be true even though they’d otherwise never trust anything that he said unless it was playing to their wishful thinking fantasies like this information warfare provocation was. To explain, they’ve imagined for years that Russia is secretly allied with the Iranian-led Resistance against Israel and that President Putin has been plotting for decades to liberate Palestine with their support. This is literally a QAnon-like conspiracy theory since there’s no proof of this whatsoever at all except for the fake news that certain AMC influencers peddled for clout, propagating their ideology, and/or soliciting donations from naïve folks.

Against this twisted backdrop, Sullivan’s claims weren’t immediately regarded with suspicion by them like any normal member of the AMC would be expected to react, but were instead misinterpreted as a sign of how scared the US is of Iran saving Russia’s supposedly faltering military campaign in Ukraine.

After all, that’s precisely the reason why they refuse to acknowledge the objectively existing and easily verifiable array of facts disproving their literal QAnon-like conspiracy theory that he’s secretly among the most passionate anti-Zionist activists in world history. The author shared the undeniable truth about Russian-Israeli relations in his 15 prior analyses that he hyperlinked to in February 2021 in this analysis, including the several dozen quotes that he pulled about it from the official Kremlin website in mid-2018. That piece in particular proves that President Putin doesn’t whatsoever at all share his Iranian counterparts’ anti-Zionist views but arguably considers them to be borderline anti-Semitic.

Having clarified all of this, it’s certainly regrettable that so many in the AMC fell for the US’ latest fake news provocation against Russia, Iran, and their strategic partnership. That just goes to show how intoxicating wishful thinking can be, ergo why President Putin felt compelled to warn his strategic forecasters about it late last month, the advice of which should have also been applied by the AMC. Going forward, everyone should always regard American claims about its multipolar rivals with the utmost suspicion, especially if they conform to one’s wishful thinking fantasies. Good news, as seen from the AMC’s perspective, will always come from reliable multipolar sources and never US ones.
